Visible water is one clue. The layers beneath a finish, their access and the water source determine what a qualified assessor should check.
Floors
Ask about the layers beneath your feet.
Carpet and pad, engineered flooring, tile assemblies and subfloor can behave differently. Ask which layer was checked and whether lifting or removal is necessary to inspect it.
Walls and cabinets
Edges can hide a longer path.
Trim, wall bases and built-in cabinets may conceal where water traveled. Ask how the team will document access, measurement points and any proposed material removal.
Completion
Use records, not appearance alone.
A proposed drying completion should be supported by material-specific monitoring and a written handoff to any repair work. This guide does not establish a universal drying time.
