What changes a water-damage estimate?
A reliable quote needs the actual source, extent and work plan. These factors help you recognize why prices differ without pretending a generic number fits your home.
Extent
Start with rooms and materials.
Accessible standing water, concealed layers, cabinets, insulation and flooring each change the inspection and possible work. Ask which areas were measured rather than pricing by a room label.
Water and time
Source and elapsed time matter.
The water source, potential contamination and how long materials stayed wet affect safety and removal decisions. Do not infer water category or a fixed drying period from photographs alone.
Scope control
Know what the quote leaves out.
Source repair, water extraction, drying, monitoring, disposal and finish rebuilding may be separate. Ask for line items, exclusions and change-order approval before relying on a total.
