01 / Safety and source
Record what happened first.
Write down when water was noticed, the known or suspected source and any immediate safety concern. Contact the appropriate emergency, utility or repair service for the source.
02 / Evidence
Keep a dated visual record.
When safe, photograph the room and affected materials before cleanup changes the scene. Keep repair and mitigation receipts together with insurer communication.
03 / Scope
Ask the same questions of each proposal.
Record rooms, material layers, water removal, drying monitoring, disposal, repair, exclusions and change-order rules. Unknown details should stay marked unknown until assessed.
